Strategy, Not Vanity: The Quiet Power of Tracy Dixon

Our November cover star built The Marketing Depot on a refreshingly unfashionable idea: marketing should make sense, get done, and actually move the business. Three years in, growing companies are handing her their entire marketing department — and keeping her.

Some people can tell you the exact moment they found their calling. Tracy Dixon is more honest than that. 'I didn't leave school knowing I wanted to work in marketing,' she admits. 'In fact, I'm not sure I really knew what I wanted to do at all.' She tried a few different paths first. Then marketing arrived and, in her words, something just clicked — a discipline that demanded the creative half of her brain and the analytical half in equal measure, and finally let her use both.

What followed was a career built the unglamorous way: across different businesses, different industries, different marketing roles, learning a huge amount at every stop. By 2023 she had reached the point most experienced marketers quietly recognise — wanting more freedom over the work she did, the businesses she worked with and how she worked. So she took the leap. The Marketing Depot was born.

Three years later, the banner across her LinkedIn page distils how she has run it: strategy, not vanity. No jargon. No borrowed formulas. No throwing random ideas at the wall and hoping something sticks. 'Marketing needs to make sense for the business, the people behind it and what they're actually trying to achieve,' she says. It is a sentence that sounds obvious until you realise how few people in her industry actually operate by it.

The Marketing Depot supports growing businesses, founders and in-house teams in two ways. The first is ongoing marketing management — Tracy becomes an extension of the client's team, taking real responsibility for planning, coordinating and delivering the day-to-day marketing. The second is the bigger, defined project: the rebrand, the new website, the SEO overhaul, the marketing audit, the strategy, the launch — work that needs someone to take ownership from the first thought through to the thing actually shipping. Recent months alone have included managing a full company rebrand and launch, delivering SEO and website optimisation projects, and building marketing strategies for businesses sharpening their positioning for growth.

'I'm definitely not the consultant who hands over a strategy document and disappears. I like getting stuck in and making things happen.'

Ask her clients what they are actually buying and it is this: someone who gets under the skin of a business fast. Tracy's favourite part of the job is exactly that — learning how a company works, understanding the people behind it, and figuring out what its marketing genuinely needs rather than applying the same template to everyone. Strategy when it is needed. Hands-on delivery when it matters. Both, more often than not.

Her range is wide — branding, websites, SEO, LinkedIn, content, email, campaigns, full marketing management — but the list is beside the point. A growing business without a marketing department suddenly has one, run by someone who has worked across more industries than most in-house teams ever see.

Home is the New Forest, where she lives with her husband and two dogs — which means plenty of dog walks, plenty of fresh air, and the occasional marketing idea arriving halfway through a walk when she is supposed to be switching off. Three years into running her own business, she says she still feels incredibly lucky that this is what she gets to do.

Her clients would put it differently. They found a marketing lead who thinks like a strategist, works like a team member and talks like a human being — something rarer than it ought to be, and precisely why she is on this cover.

The Marketing Depot works with growing businesses, founders and in-house teams. Find Tracy at themarketingdepot.co.uk and on LinkedIn, where she practises precisely what she preaches.
